Community & Mentorship

Alongside my personal editing work, I’ve also spent time contributing to creative communities focused on collaboration, learning, and supporting other editors. Two of the main spaces where I’ve done this are Editors for a Better World (E4BW) and Groovie.
These experiences allowed me to work not only as an editor and motion designer, but also as a mentor and creative contributor in environments where the focus was on helping others grow.

Editors for a Better World (E4BW)

Editors for a Better World is a non-profit creative community where editors and motion designers team up to create projects that raise awareness about important social issues.
During my time in E4BW, I contributed as an editor and motion designer, helping create content for the community and supporting various creative initiatives. The work often involved designing visuals, editing reels, and contributing to post-production content used in community projects and educational posts.

Using donations from all corners of the editing community, we raise money targeting global issues and for an variety of different causes.
Thanks to the support shown to our cause, in the past, we have donated over $450 to charities such as the Palestine Children's Relief Fund, The Trevor Project and Afghanistan Crisis Children's Relief.
We hope to continue our efforts with more donation goals that address a wide range of pressing global issues.
Another part of the experience involved collaboration with other editors in the community. This meant sharing techniques, discussing creative approaches, and helping other members improve their editing skills. The environment encouraged open knowledge sharing rather than gatekeeping, which created a supportive space for both beginner and experienced editors.
Being part of E4BW helped shape how I think about creative communities. It showed me how editing and motion design can be used not only for entertainment or aesthetics, but also as a way to support conversations around important topics and connect people through storytelling.

Groovie

Groovie is a creative learning space that I started with the goal of helping editors learn motion design and video editing in a more open and supportive environment. Many editing communities can feel competitive or difficult for beginners to enter, so I wanted to create a space where people could learn without that pressure.
Through Groovie, I organize learning sessions and guide editors through different aspects of editing and motion design. This includes explaining techniques, giving assignments, and providing feedback to help people improve their work.

Over time, the space has grown into a small community where editors can experiment, ask questions, and develop their skills step by step. Rather than focusing on strict structures, the idea is to allow people to explore creativity while still having guidance and mentorship available.
My role within Groovie includes teaching, mentoring editors, managing the community, and helping members progress from basic editing concepts toward more advanced motion design techniques.

One of the main motivations behind creating Groovie was accessibility. Formal design education can be expensive and difficult for many people to access, especially for younger editors who are just starting out. By sharing knowledge and guiding others through the learning process, the goal is to make creative education more approachable.
The experience of mentoring and teaching editors has also influenced my own creative process. Explaining techniques to others often leads to deeper understanding, and working with a community of learners keeps the creative environment active and collaborative.

Why Community Work Matters to Me

While much of my work focuses on editing and motion design projects, community involvement has played an important role in my creative journey. Working with other editors, mentoring beginners, and contributing to collaborative spaces has helped me see creativity as something that grows through shared knowledge and support.
Both E4BW and Groovie represent different aspects of that idea. One focused on using editing to support meaningful conversations, and the other focused on helping editors learn and develop their skills.
These experiences have collectively shaped my approach to creative work, collaboration, and mentorship within the editing community.
